About Qantas

About

Founded in 1920 in the Queensland outback, Qantas has evolved into Australia’s largest domestic and international airline. Originally registered as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited (QANTAS), it is renowned as a global leader in long-distance travel and one of Australia’s most iconic brands, celebrated for safety, reliability, engineering, and customer service excellence.

The Qantas Group operates through two primary airline brands, Qantas and Jetstar, offering regional, domestic, and international flights. Its diverse portfolio includes subsidiaries like Qantas Freight Enterprises and Qantas Frequent Flyer . The airline serves over 135 destinations around Australia and worldwide, delivering premium comfort and innovation to passengers and freight services alike.

Class of Travel

First Class provides unparalleled luxury with private suites, exclusive First lounges, and curated amenities such as Neil Perry-designed menus, award-winning Australian wines, LaGaia spa treatments, and premium entertainment.

Business Class combines comfort and style, featuring spacious cabins, gourmet dining, sommelier-selected wines, and access to award-winning Business lounges.

Premium Economy on A380 or B787 flights ensures added comfort with spacious reclining seats, contemporary dining, and an exclusive cabin with a dedicated crew.

Economy Class delivers a welcoming experience with inflight dining, reclining seats, and entertainment, supported by attentive crew on both domestic and international routes.

Baggage Allowance

Qantas’s cabin baggage allowances vary by route and cabin class:
Domestic passengers (excluding Dash 8 services) may carry one standard piece (56x36x23cm, 10kg) plus two smaller duffle-style bags or backpacks. (48x34x23cm, 14kg total) or a garment bag alongside a personal item.

Dash 8 flights permit one small piece (48x34x23cm, 7kg) for domestic travelers. International travelers (except from India) receive 7kg–14kg allowances based on class, plus a personal item.

Infants may carry essentials in addition to the accompanying adult’s allowance, while children’s allowances mirror adults.

Checked baggage limits depend on destination and travel class:

Australian domestic Economy passengers receive one 23kg piece, increasing with Frequent Flyer status. International routes (excluding the Americas) offer 30kg–70kg allowances by class. Americas-bound flights use piece-based systems (32kg per item).

Qantas Frequent Flyer Program

The Qantas Frequent Flyer program rewards members with Qantas Points and Status Credits on eligible flights with Qantas, Jetstar, oneworld® members, and partner airlines.

Status Credits help members progress through tiers—Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum One—unlocking exclusive benefits. While Qantas Points can be earned on flights, hotels, holidays, and with program partners, Status Credits reset annually.

Members can use Qantas Points for flight rewards, hotel bookings, classic upgrades, or family transfers. Popular options include upgrading travel classes, booking accommodations worldwide, or transferring points to family members. The program offers diverse opportunities to earn and redeem points, enhancing the travel experience for frequent flyers.

Check-in

Qantas offers online check-in, available 24 hours before flight departure, allowing passengers to obtain a digital boarding pass. Early check-in is recommended to ensure sufficient time at the airport.

For those unable to check in online, airport check-in is available, with closing times varying based on the destination. This ensures a smooth and efficient travel experience.

Onboard Support

Qantas provides comprehensive onboard support tailored to passengers with specific needs. Meet and assist services, available upon request during booking, include help from check-in to departure gates, mobility aid handling, and assistance during transfers.

Onboard seating arrangements prioritize accessibility, with aisle seats, proximity to toilets, and accommodations for service dogs or carers. Special meals for dietary, medical, or religious needs can be arranged if requested in advance.

Passengers with specific needs typically board first and disembark last, requiring arrival at gates 40 minutes (domestic) or 60 minutes (international) before departure.

Unaccompanied minors under 12 must travel with a guardian aged 15 years and older or under Qantas supervision, while children aged 12–17 may opt for Young Passenger services. Staff assist with mobility transfers and ensure a smooth travel experience.

Refund & Cancellation

Qantas’s refund policy allows tickets issued and canceled on the same day to be voided without a refund process.

Tickets issued earlier may qualify for refunds based on fare rules, Qantas policies, and Conditions of Carriage.

Non-refundable fares or cancellation fees may apply, and refunds are only permitted within 13 months of ticket issuance, with exceptions in special circumstances.

Flight delays or cancellations due to weather, technical issues, or operational challenges may occur, with passenger safety as the priority. Qantas offers rebooking on the next available flight or refunds, alongside assistance like meals or accommodation.

Passengers may also have statutory rights under Australian Consumer Law, New Zealand Civil Aviation Act, or international conventions.
